PC: Nick Barakos
I am an Assistant Professor in Sociology at the London School of Economics.
I study topics in economic and organizational sociology and race and ethnicity. I examine how race shapes credit and labor markets – focusing both on the construction of markets and individuals’ socio-economic outcomes.
My research investigates topics ranging from the institutionalization of American personal bankruptcy law to the characteristics that contribute to neighborhood entrepreneurship. I contribute to scholarship on inequality by identifying how racial and class hierarchies shape the means in which individuals strive towards their economic goals.
I employ quantitative and qualitative methods using archival, administrative, survey, and text data.
I was previously a postdoctoral researcher at Columbia Business School. I completed my Ph.D. in sociology at Columbia University and received my B.A. in Sociology from Princeton University.
In my free time, I enjoy reading historical novels, strolling through cities, and practicing my conversational Mandarin.
